CDR Assessment
A CDR assessment framework allows aspiring engineers to pursue their dream of Australian immigration for career advancement. They are required to craft a competency demonstration report (CDR) showcasing engineering knowledge and expertise in the discipline for skills assessment. Their migration is entirely based on the approval of a competency report through assessment by the assessor.
Engineers Australia (EA) is the leading authority designated to review professional education in the field of engineering for skilled immigration to Australia. The skills evaluation is the first step for undertaking the migrating procedure under the CDR assessment of Engineers Australia. The migration skills assessment (MSA) booklet provides detailed information about CDR writing, even though its gets rejected and is not able to get the migration visa because they fail to fulfil the EA requirements.
Requirements for Skills Assessment Australia
We should have the following conditions before proceeding with the assessment,
- An appropriate academic qualification
- Personal documentation like a Prime ID, a passport-size photo, and a resume/CV
- Engineering work experience, by the General Skilled Migration requirements
- Evidence of English language competency, which is certified under IELTS or equivalent, to Level 6 for each of the 4 IELTS categories
- Applicable, verified evidence of registration under the relevant licensing authority in the country in which we are working
CDR Skills Assessment By Engineers Australia
Engineers Australia’s migration skills assessment process usually takes about 4 to 7 months. When we apply for the migration to Australia under the Skilled Migration Scheme, Engineers Australia (EA) is responsible for assessing our engineering skills and qualifications and passing on its report to Skill Select. If we have at least 60 points, we will be invited to apply for the visa within 60 days of the assessment process. There are four occupational categories. They are
- Professional Engineer: The engineer applies management skills and professional expertise, focusing on overall systems. A Professional Engineer has a systematic approach to engineering projects and is able to use established engineering methods to solve complex engineering problems.
- Engineering Technologist: This occupation engineer focuses on interactions within the system, and they apply established engineering methods within the technology domain.
- Engineering Associate: As an associate, the engineer should be able to focus on a specific element of the system. Prepares, interprets, Inspects and Revises drawings, plans, diagrams, designs, maps and charts that are taken from MSA. Provides technical support to Professional Engineers
- Engineering Manager: This relevant engineer reviews engineering operations and is able to formulate strategies, policies and plans in the field of engineering. An Engineering Manager is not an engineering occupation but belongs to the Managers ANZSCO group.
Proficiency in the English Language
Candidates are expected to show their skills in the English Language. Engineers Australia has the right to request an English language test if it is required. The people who are under the age of 45 can apply for skilled migration. We have to write a Language internet-based test like the TOEFL test, and the test scores are valid for only three years, as far as the CDR assessment by Engineers Australia is concerned.
To show English competence, candidates should have an IELTS score of 6 or more in each of the four test components. The components are Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking. In terms of TOEFL iBT, candidates must have at least 12 for Listening, 13 for Reading, 18 for Speaking, and 21 for Writing in the test. In the case of PTE ACADEMIC, a score of 50 in each of the four test components is required.
RECOGNITION OF QUALIFICATION

The Washington, Sydney, & Dublin Accord:
It is an agreement between the engineering accreditation bodies. It is recognised as the professional engineering degree delivered in those countries. The Accord applies only to accreditations conducted by the signatories within their respective national and territorial boundaries. The Australian Institution of Engineers is a signatory to the Washington, Dublin, and Sydney accords. Occupation will be checked with the relevant accreditation body. If your skills are not accredited under one of the accords, you will be required to submit a Competency Demonstration Report.
Submission of Competency Demonstration Report (CDR)
A competency demonstration report is a necessary document for Engineers Australia for the evaluation of the competency of an engineer. When a CDR is rejected, an Australian Skilled Migration Visa approval is not granted to the candidate. The document should be written very carefully. Engineers who apply for Australian visas hardly get enough time to craft a compelling competency report. So they need the help of CDR writing experts. A CDR includes three key elements:
Three 3 Career Episodes
Engineers Australia lists competencies that look for engineers of different skill levels. Writing a career episode report is one of the most crucial steps of a CDR application. Career episode showcases the engineering knowledge and professional expertise through an engineering occupation and experience. Career episodes should always be written in the first person and active voice. A career episode should be 1,000 to 2,500 words long. Each career episode’s narrative should be in an essay form. Each one should include four sections: introduction, background, personal engineering Activity and Summary.
Summary Statement
A summary statement is not an ordinary summary. It is an essential document in the CDR for migration skills assessment. It is just one page long, and it is the most challenging part of a competency report. In that one page, the engineering and management skills have to be showcased. Numbers given to the paragraph in the career episode must be specified here. It provides the analysis outcome of all three career episodes.
Continuous Professional Development (CPD) list
The Continuing Professional Development Report is also known as CPD. It is also an integral part of the report needed for Engineers Australia skills assessment. A CPD showcases how an engineer should keep themselves familiar with the development of the engineering field. The CPD must be in a table format comprising the title, date, duration, location, and organiser of the training and events.
