The main pathway for experienced professionals without the standard academic profile is the Chartered Membership Programme (CMP), followed by the Professional Review for MCIOB status.

The CMP is built for construction professionals who already have relevant industry experience and want a structured route to Chartered Membership. CIOB says it is suitable if you have significant construction experience but do not hold an honours degree-level qualification (for example, if you have worked in a management role for around five years).
Typical Entry Profile
You can usually start the CMP if you meet at least one of these entry points:
- Five years’ experience in a construction management role.
- A Level 4 Site Management qualification.
- Technical qualifications such as HNC or HND.
What You Must Complete?
The CMP is made up of four modules:
- Construction Technology,
